Public engagement exercise to seek local views on roundabout improvements in Kingswood

We are seeking feedback on proposals for two roundabout improvement schemes at Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road / Bude Road, as part of the Kingswood Area Action Plan.

Obtaining the views of residents, businesses and community groups on the designs for these schemes is an important step and will help us finalise the necessary documents required to secure a contractor.

A six-week engagement exercise has been launched so that people can look at the plans and comment, both online and in-person.

The schemes will -

  • provide additional road space for vehicles and prepare the area for the future and any new development
  • improve cycle and pedestrian facilities to support people to walk and ride more
  • provide new signalised cycle and pedestrian crossing points to improve safety
  • see the management of trees in the area, some of which are proposed to be taken up and replanted. Where this cannot be accommodated, twice as many replacement trees will be planted to improve the local landscape

Once a contractor is appointed, it is anticipated that work will start on site in winter 2025.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said -

“As a council, it is our ambition to create a highway network and public spaces that ensure our residents can travel in safety and security using whatever form of transport they choose.

“To achieve this, we need to take a proactive and planned approach to futureproofing our city’s infrastructure, with traffic levels and the population expected to grow in the coming years. That is what we are doing in Kingswood through the area action plan.

“We have already completed works to the Wawne Road / Kesteven Way roundabout to provide additional highway capacity as well as improve walking and cycling routes and we are now focussing our attention on the Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabouts and are keen to hear from the local community.”

Access and comment on the scheme plans

The end date for public and stakeholder engagement is Friday 8 August 2025.

In addition to being able to view and comment on the plans online, the council will also be hosting an in-person, drop-in session in the Kingswood area, the date, times and location of this will be announced soon.
