Council enhances cycling infrastructure with Boothferry Road cycle lane resurfacing scheme

Hull City Council has confirmed that the on-road cycle lane on Boothferry Road, heading out of the city towards Hessle and the Humber Bridge, will be resurfaced.  

As part of the council’s commitment to improving cycling infrastructure across the city, the resurfacing of the cycle lane would enhance safety by improving the road condition and helping to reduce hazards. 

Once finished, the newly improved cycle lane will provide a safe and accessible route for cyclists to confidently travel between the five ways roundabout and the city boundary. 

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday 10 June and are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting. 

For the safety of contractors and the travelling public, the works will be undertaken using lane closures. The outbound bus stops will also be temporarily suspended. 

Ian Cappleman, highways programme manager at Hull City Council, said: “As a council, we recognise the importance of cycling as a sustainable mode of transport and as an active form of travel. 

“With more and more people choosing to cycle in the city, investing in our infrastructure is an important priority. 

“By resurfacing the outbound Boothferry Road cycle lane, we aim to encourage more people to choose cycling and help promote a healthier, greener Hull. 

“We would like to thank our residents in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.” 

The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction on behalf of the council.
